I think you've got to start looking at some additional references to move your designs on, Danni - I know these are only thumbnails, but the way you're actually drawing/thinking about these assets is a bit under-whelming and feels like you need greater purpose and direction - I've suggested looking at the simpler aesthetic associated with wooden moving toys, but maybe start looking at toys more generally? You need to evoke both nostalgia and charm - these are 'mini worlds' - and I just think you're not allowing these places to be as truly imagined/imaginative as they could and should be... take a look at the Wreck-It Ralph concept art for example:

You need to move past 'drawing' and start 'designing' something...
